Swing Bed Training for
Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs)

May 13, 2005
8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m
.

Location: Indian Health Service, Phoenix Area Office,
2 Renaissance Square, 40 North Central Avenue (6th floor, large conference room)

Purpose

Swing bed utilization is an easy service to implement in a critical access hospital. It is also the fastest way to increase hospital revenues without increasing staff or other costs by simply increasing Medicare days in a cost-reimbursed system such as critical access hospitals.

A swing bed program allows more effective management of the 96-hour average length of stay for Medicare patients in a critical access hospital while at the same time improving outcomes.

The workshop will provide an intensive learning opportunity on how to more effectively use CAH swing beds. It will also demonstrate how to apply for these beds if they do not currently exist.

Who should attend?

The event is designed for critical access hospital chief executive officers, chief financial officers, directors of nursing, discharge planners, and staff members responsible for billing and coding.
