Arizona rural hospitals are invited to this workshop which will address various practical approaches to electronic health and medical records. Topics will include how electronic health and medical records differ, HIPAA security issues, working with vendors, impact of Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIOs), Medicare compliance, workflow, interfaces with pay for performance, working with physician providers plus related matters.
In addition, a representative of the Governor’s Health-e Initiative will give an update on Arizona’s EHR roadmap.
Limited travel reimbursement will be made available to critical access hospital personnel attending the meeting.
This educational program is offered at no cost by the Arizona Rural Hospital Flexibility Program with support of the Office of Rural Health Policy (HRSA). Pre-registration is required.

Meeting Objectives
• Participants will learn to differentiate between an electronic health record and an electronic medical record
• Participants will learn the risk assessment process tied to implementation of the electronic health and medical record systems
• Participants will learn about the national health information technology initiative, as well as the Arizona health information technology initiative and their implications for critical access hospitals
• Participants will learn about HIPAA compliance implications for electronic medical record solutions
• Participants will learn about the formation of RHIOs (regional health information organizations) and their implications
• Participants will learn about professional liability issues tied to implementing electronic health/medical record systems
Instructors
David Ginsberg is President of PrivaPlan Associates, Inc. He has years of experience in the healthcare industry including physician practice management, rural health practice, managed care organization development and electronic data interchange.
Susan A Miller, J.D. is COO and Chief Privacy Officer of HealthTransactions. She has an in-depth knowledge of the federal/state healthcare law and regulations as they impact medical practices, hospitals, health plans, and other health care entities.
Lesley Berkeyheiser has over twenty years experience in the healthcare industry, most of it involving managed care, including direction and management of healthcare operations at various renowned health plans. She is Principal of The Clayton Group, LLC, a consulting company working in healthcare issues including HIPAA preparation work, business development and technology.
HIT Funding, Tuesday, April 11, 2006
A back-to-back workshop, HIT Funding, will be held on April 11 at the same location. Its goals are to inform rural stakeholders about the latest developments in HIT-related funding sources, increase skills to seize HIT-related opportunities, and facilitate the formation of linkages to increase HIT-related projects in Arizona and increase their funding. The registration fee will be $60.00 which includes lunch, breaks and materials.
